Detailed statistics of Housing Market Areas and Building Groups based on 2016 Population By-census released

Since 2003, the Census and Statistics Department and Centamap Company Limited (Centamap) have jointly disseminated detailed results of population censuses and by-censuses using the Geographic Information System. Results of the 2016 Population By-census relevant to different geographical layers such as Housing Market Areas and Building Groups have now been released on the websites of Centamap (hk.centamap.com and hk.centamap.com/census) and the Centamap mobile application free of charge.

Users can obtain detailed statistical information relevant to individual areas from the above websites and mobile application so as to understand the socio-economic characteristics (e.g. age and sex distribution, level of education, occupation, income, household composition and housing) of the population residing therein. While a map tool is provided on hk.centamap.com and in the mobile application for users to locate areas they wish to study, statistics of the 2016 Population By-census of different geographical layers are presented hierarchically on hk.centamap.com/census to enable handy comparison on the socio-economic characteristics among different neighbourhood areas.

In addition to releasing statistics relevant to District Council districts, Large Street Block Groups and Building Groups as in the past, population census / by-census results relevant to Housing Market Areas are released for the first time.

Housing Market Areas are developed by Centamap, mainly making reference to the spatial pattern of real estate demand and property market transactions.
