The Census and Statistics Department released today (September 29) detailed results of the 2016 Population By-census for Tertiary Planning Units. The statistics are useful for understanding the social and economic characteristics (e.g. age and sex distribution, education level, occupation, income and housing characteristics) of the population residing in the various Tertiary Planning Units.

The statistics can be downloaded free of charge from the thematic website of the 2016 Population By-census (www.bycensus2016.gov.hk/en/bc-dp-tpu.html). A map tool is provided to facilitate user to locate individual Tertiary Planning Unit and obtain the relevant statistical information.

Tertiary Planning Units are defined by the Planning Department and mainly used for town planning purposes. Having regard to data precision and protection of data privacy of individual respondents, a Tertiary Planning Unit with less than 1 000 persons is merged with adjacent Tertiary Planning Unit(s) for the release of statistics.

In addition, statistics for major housing estates based on the 2016 Population By-census are also available for downloading free of charge from the above website.
